Best craigslist find to date

We've been trying to find rugs since the floor are not really ready for prime time.  This morning we ordered a sisal rug from pottery barn for the bedroom, but passed on the pretty wool patterned rug that was twice as expensive.  Browsing craigslist this afternoon I found this big (8x13.5) beauty for the same price as the sisal. yay!  This will be for the dining room and we can use the rug we already have for the living room.  We are all set.  The floors are almost all painted... first coat anyway.
Now to pack. ugh. Eight more days until we actually live here - woohoo!!

Lace Curtains

Many thanks to Mom for the pretty lace curtains, I'll have to add a picture of them at night so you can actually see them.  They have made a big difference in making the house look like its ours!

No carpet, no rug, no drop ceiling!!  More to come...

Tyler Robot at PMA

Awesome giant robot that talked, played games, popped popcorn and gave out gifts!  It's three stories tall with ten people inside.  Very fun happening on a beautiful spring day!!

Pictures Coming Soon!

I can't believe how much work we've done in less than a week!  The living room/dining room carpet is out, which was tons of work because of the masonite underneath with 25 nails per square foot (i counted!).  The carpet in the front bedroom is also out.  The carpet on the basement stairs is gone, which was another pain because of the vast number of carpet staples - these people always overdid it in on the quest to do a thorough job.  The drop ceiling in the living room/dining room is gone, as is the one in the upstairs hall.  Today we took down ALL THE GREEN WALLPAPER!  It was vinyl and it just peeled right off the walls, amazing!  What a difference, the walls need some work, but are mostly solid, and they're white, not green!! Yay!

Almost There

In a couple of days we will enter into this new adventure of owning a home.  I am knocking on wood when I say this - which will be even easier in our new house as there is a good deal of wood panelling.  This blog background is perfect in fact... wood panelling, pink and green definitely dominate the decor at the moment.  Some of this wonderful stuff c.1960 will be treasured and hopefully we'll be able to take care of it as immaculately as the previous owners.  Other parts, namely the wood panelling, shag carpets and drop ceiling will soon be dispatched.  Those parts of the house will be lovingly returned to their turn of the 20th century origins.  Variety is the spice of life they say, so I don't see anything wrong with a dual-era house.  I still can't believe how lucky we are to be able to do this, I plan to keep this gratitude in my heart and try to share my good fortune with others.

Ghery Bandshell and bridge to the Renzo Piano wing of the AIC

View from the new wing onto Millenium Park

Mt. Pleasant Drawing Rom

No wait! It's the miniature version in the Thorne Rooms at AIC... possibly my favorite museum section of all time.

Pabst Lecture

View from the conference room where I gave my lecture on Daniel Pabst and his Centennial Sideboard. The podium is in the foreground... good thing they closed the shades for the talk, I didn't want to compete with the Gehry bandshell for attention!

The University Club

A beautiful 1908 building where the Antiquarians put me up the night before my talk!

The Club

The interiors were beautiful, I'll post some real camera pics eventually.

Ready!

Ready for my talk!

University Club

Fancy schmancy hotel where the AIC people put me up. I read the dress code when I got here - yes they have a dress code. No jeans. oops. I bet eating food and wine from the grocery store in my room is not allowed either. oh well.

Dean and Deluca

Cupcakes!! I tried to satiate my desire to eat these by taking a picture that at least could capture how pretty they were, if not how delicious I'm sure they tasted.
